Common points of failure include non-compliant gaps exceeding 3 millimetres between the door leaf and frame, warped frames preventing full latching and uncertified hardware installations. A fire door that fails to latch automatically completely invalidates the localised fire barrier.
- Intumescent Sealing and Fire Dampers: Intumescent materials expand rapidly when exposed to high temperatures, creating a dense, non-combustible char that seals voids around service penetrations. Regular inspections verify that these seals have not been dislodged, altered, or degraded by moisture. Similarly, mechanical fire dampers within ventilation ductwork must be tested to ensure they drop or latch shut instantly upon thermal activation.
